Magazine, Date, Article, Author, Summary
Ace Sep 1965
Article: The Naughty Nudist Camp for Film Starlets Only, by Malcolm B. Rutherford
Summary: Article about an island off the California coast, near Los Angeles, that is a nudist resort. Claims that there are about 60 "starlets" who are the "hard core" of the naturists. The resort can accommodate about 130 people. An anecdote about a "Joe Blow" who visited as a guest of an actress, but who was surreptitiously filming nude sunbathers. Although the writer claims to be a nudist, he also includes anecdotes sexualizing the guests and describing their sexually open activities, including "tent hopping" and lesbianism.
Ace Sep 1966
Article: How the Nudies Helped the Nudists Beat the Censors, by Carl Granger
Summary: Essay positing that while censors and moralists are trying to ban nudity in films (particularly racy films like those of Russ Meyer), more and more films are showing nudity, sexuality, and adultery, including films with major stars like Liz Taylor and Shirley MacLaine. Meanwhile, the general public has adopted a more and more blase attitude towards nudity. Nudists have therefore found less harassment, as long as they keep to themselves. Includes a quote from Zelda Suplee from her appearance on the Jack Paar show.
Ace Apr 1979
Article: Nudist Swingers: Out of the Bedroom & Into the Park!, by Sharon Evans
Summary: Erotic fiction dressed up as a sort of confessional. A woman reluctantly moves to a nudist resort ("colony") and discovers that the residents there are all swingers, and free sex is the norm. Heavily sexualized fantasy with a nudist backdrop.

Summary: Academic article that examines the mythical elements of the clothed body using social nudist narratives. Male Apr 1970
Article: I Lived in the Midwest's "Free Love" Colony, by Kevin Burke
Summary: Likely fictional story of a "Free love colony" started by Scandinavian immigrants who felt that American society was too sexually inhibited. Supposedly situated on the Wisconsin-Minnesota border, the club is supposedly recruiting new American members. The members are completely unselfconscious and it is mentioned in passing that they also "practice nudism". They also mention that they joined a nudist colony, but the nudists were too prudish and they were kicked out for having sex in the open.
Male Jan 1954
Article: The Truth About Nudists, by Richard Carter
Summary: An attempt to understand nudism, the "unorthodox hobby". Provides some academic background, with quotes from Sandor Lorand, an actual psychiatrist of some renown. Also references the ASA and NNC (National Nudist Council). Author makes the case that there is actually a sexual drive to nudism. However, the author also states that nudists are harmless and law-abiding. The overall thrust is surprisingly similar to the relatively positive takes on nudism from non-nudist journalists today. Author also points out some inconsistencies in nudism (e.g. they say beauty is unimportant, but nudist women still wear makeup). Overall a fair assessment of 1950s nudism.
Male May 1952
Article: The Nudist Who Turned Spy, by Kurt Singer
Summary: A noir-style, fictionalized account of a female spy who cozied up to a Communist in a New Jersey nudist camp. Nudism is mentioned only once, in passing, but is made the focus of the article with the title and blurb.

An American fisherman loses his boat in a storm and washes up on the island, where Luz del Fuego rules. She allows only men on the island, and they are all ordered to be naked. Article: Intimate Tape-recorded Confessions of Young Girl Nudists, by Kevin Burke
Summary: Highly sexualized fantasy of nudist women who are portrayed as nudists mainly because of the sexual opportunities. Presents a sexualized view of nudism where nudist clubs have become sex clubs with the sexual revolution. There is some possibly legitimate content but it's presented in a fictionalized and tittillating way.
Male Apr 1963
Article: Italian Nudist Girls who Knocked Out Germany's Tiger Tank Depot, by Donald Salver
Summary: A likely fictional short story recounting a military operation in Sicily in WWII. An American army force attacks a depot of German tanks with the help of a local Mafia-connected woman and her young nudist friends. The women are mostly incidental to the plot, and apparently wear bikinis during the raid, but the title sensationalizes the story's nudist element heavily.
Man's Adventure Apr 1958
Article: Every Man a Peeping Top, by Kathryn B. Durnwood
Summary: Article from the point of view of a 25-year-old female nudist. The woman decries the ogling, staring, and even illicit photography that women are subject to in nudist environments. Man's Conquest June 1965
Article: America's Nudist Craze, by Sam Narto
Summary: Article that "exposes" the "nudist craze" as a cover for swinging and wife-swapping, contending that the sexual revolution has led to the exploitation and commercialization of nudism for sexual purposes. Seems based on legitimate information on nudism (mentions ASA, other regional nudist groups. etc.), but insists that there are many nudists (estimated at 30% of all nudists) who engage in nudism purely for the orgies.
Man's Life Feb 1969
Article: Big City Indoor Nudist Clubs, by Norton McVickers
Summary: An account of a visit to an indoor nudist club in New York, where the very rich hang out nude and have sex freely. Claims that nudists - "sun worshippers" - are legitimate if they are outdoors, indoor nudist clubs are really exclusive sex clubs. Most likely fictionalized fantasy.
Man's Life May 1969
Article: Why Nudists Make the Best Sex Partners, by Amos Martinggale
Summary: Essay claiming that nudists make the best sex partners. The reasons include that they have fewer inhibitions about their bodies and sex organs, are willing to communicate about sex, and tend to be healthier because nudism is "a health cult".
